Académie de Sablé
August 24-29, 2020

The Académie de Sablé is a landmark educational programme for the interpretation of Baroque music that is held every year during the Festival de Sablé.
The one-week course offers students advanced training, to meet expectations according to qualifications. The teaching team is made up of Chantal Santon Jeffery, Florence Malgoire, Héloïse Gaillard, François Joubert-Caillet and Mahan Esfahani. The training is intented for students at the end of the 2nd cycle, 3rd cycle or postgraduate cycle of conservatory but also for professional artists and enlightened amateurs.
New for 2020 ! Leonardo García Alarcón et Christina Pluhar, whose ensembles are scheduled as part of the Festival de Sablé, will offer half-day masterclasses on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 August. These masterclasses are intended for young soloists or existing ensembles whishing to benefit from their advice and experienced hearing.

Chantal Santon Jeffery :: Vocal

Lessons accompanied by Roberta Tagarelli, harpsichord

Appreciated for her intensive voice and her incredible scenic presence, Chantal Santon Jeffery is acclaimed as one of the most accomplished French sopranos of her generation. As much at ease in the reduced form of a consort song as in the lyric romantic repertoire, she has embodies numerous roles in the opera, from Purcell to the contemporary creation with renowned conductors. An experienced teacher and discoverer of promising young voices, Chantal Santon Jeffery is often invited as a voice teacher in all sorts of courses and trainings, among which the Académie de Versailles, organized by the CMBV and the Prague Early Music Festival.

Born into a family of musicians, Florence Malgoire completed her training within the Petite Bande directed by her teacher Sigiswald Kuijken and in La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy under the watchful eye of her father, the musician Jean-Claude Malgoire. Over the years, her talent as a concertmaster has been in high demand by renowned conductors and ensembles. At the same time, in 2003, she created her own ensemble, Les Dominos. As a devoted teacher, Florence Malgoire teaches ancient violin and chamber music at the Haute École de Musique de Genève and is regularly invited in  other structures such as the Fondation Royaumont, le Festival d’Automne de Tokyo and the Juilliard School of New-York.

Worldwide praised by the press for her sensitivity as a musician, for her talents as a virtuoso and the contrasted subtility in her way of playing, Héloïse Gaillard soon made a name for herself as a soloist. A graduate of the Rotterdam Conservatory in flute and of the CNSM of Paris in baroque oboe, she performs as a soloist or with an orchestra in France and abroad. Héloïse Gaillard holds the Ancient Music Aptitude Certificate. She taught baroque oboe in the Aix-en-Provence early music department between 2009 and 2015 and is regularly invited to give masterclasses in France, England and Latin America.

Practical Informations

Duration
The course is a complete curriculum and includes the 5 days of training and the day of the public presentation (rehearsals and concert). The total duration of the training includes 10 hours of lessons, to which can be added optional teachings, the hours of personal work and rehearsals for the public presentation.

Maximum number of trainees
8 students

Main teaching
Each participant has a daily class of 45 minutes with his teacher and can attend, as an auditor, to other students’ classes.
Chamber music classes are offered daily to students and provide exchanges with the other participants and teachers.

Optional teaching
Dance introductory sessions are offered. It is about the discovery of the different dance forms of the French Baroque repertoire (duple-meter, two ternary meters and triple-meter) in close relation to music.

Program
The teaching program of the Academy is designed to give students an opportunity for personalized training. In addition to the repertoire brought by the professors, participants have the opportunity to submit, at the time of their application, the pieces they would like to play. These pieces will have to be prepared before the beginning of the training.

Public presentation
The training session ends on Saturday August 29 with a public presentation by the students at 11:00 at the Sablé church, as part of the Festival de Sablé.

Registration
The registration form is to be sent before July 17, 2020, along with a curriculum vitae, the list of the pieces that the student wishes to be played and a deposit check. For vocal classes, it is also requested to join an audio or video recording. After this date, registrations will remain open, subject to availability.

Teaching fees
Vocal : 400 €
Music : 300 €
30 € non refundable application fees must be paid at the time of registration, the balance must be paid no later than July 17, 2020.

Scholarships
The Académie de Sablé, with the support of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, offers four scholarships for students (support for educational costs). Scholarships for artists under 30 are awarded according to their grade and their financial situation.

Schedule
Individual lessons and chamber music: from Monday August 24 to Friday 28 09:30-18:30
The schedule of each student is fixed on the first day with his teacher.
Public presentation (rehearsal and concert): Saturday August 29, 09:30-12:30
Dance introductory session, ball open to all students: Monday August 24 at 20:30.

Course location
Classes are given at the Sablé Conservatory: 32 rue Gambetta, 72300 Sablé-sur-Sarthe. Classrooms and workrooms are provided with harpsichords from the Atelier Ducornet.

Accomodation
Accomodation in a 2-person room (twin beds) is available at CFSR Les Rives de Sablé from Monday August 24 in the evening to Saturday August 29 in the morning (possibility of adding the Sunday night of August 23 – dinner not included – on request). An half-board accommodation (dinners, nights and breakfasts) is available. Sheets and towels are provided.

Leonardo García Alarcón created about ten years ago his ensemble Cappella Mediterranea, following by the foundation of the Millennium Orchestra, which he also founded to accompany the Namur Chamber Choir,, one of the best baroque choirs in existence. He is divided between Geneva, France, Belgium and his native South America, a form of geographical eclecticism, to which his repertoire corresponds.

Chères spectatrices, chers spectateurs,

Nous espérons que ce message vous trouve, vous et vos proches, en bonne santé. En cette période inédite, toute l’équipe de L’Entracte tient à apporter un message de solidarité et de soutien aux personnels soignants, aux personnes impactées par la maladie et aux travailleurs qui continuent à subvenir aux besoins essentiels de tous.

C’est une situation particulière que nous vivons depuis plusieurs semaines. À ce jour, nous avons dû annuler les représentations programmées jusqu’au 15 avril 2020. Seul le spectacle Les habits neufs de l’Empereur a pu être reporté au 12 juin. Nous vous annonçons aujourd’hui qu’en raison de la situation de pandémie du COVID 19,  L’Entracte et le Centre Culturel sont fermés jusqu’à nouvel ordre. Dans ce cadre, nous ne maintiendrons pas les séances du Cinéma du Mercredi des 29 avril et 6 mai, ainsi que la soirée La Grande Entracte prévue le samedi 2 mai 2020.
